A group of Polish health workers who arrived in Tajikistan by a special charter flight on June 7 today left Dushanbe for the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) to get acquainted with the process of treatment of COVID-19 patients in the region, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population, Mirhamuddin Kamolzoda, told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.

According to him, the purpose of the visit is for 16 Polish health workers to share experience in combating the new coronavirus (COVID-19) with their Tajik colleagues. 

“They will be divided in several groups and will visit hospitals in order to get acquainted with process of treatment of COVID-19 patients.  They will stay in the country for a month,” Kamolzoda said.  

“Among them are epidemiologist, infectious disease doctor, resuscitator and mid-level health workers,” the deputy minister noted.  

“Today, Polish heath workers left for Khorog, the capital of GBAO, to share their experience and get acquainted with the process of treatment of COVID-19 patients there,” Kamolzoda said.  

Recall, GBAO regional TV station Badakhshon on June 8 showed a meeting of GBAO governor, Mr. Yodgor Faizov, with senior representatives of relevant regional agencies.

Speaking at a meeting, GBAO governor noted that 1,506 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the region.  1,132 patients (78 percent) have recovered.  22 coronavirus-linked deaths (1.5 percent) have been reported in GBAO.  GBAO governor noted that those who died were older people having chronic diseases.
