Mortality rate is on the rise in Tajikistan while birth rate is declining in the country.  The number of marriages and divorces in the country is decreasing.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Justice Muzaffar Ashouriyon noted on July 13 that 18,777 people died in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year, which was 1,848 cases more than in the same period last year.

The minister noted that the rise in the death rate in the country had not resulted from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Meanwhile, the birth rate has declined in the country over the same six-month period.

“In January-June, some 101,000 newborns have been registered in Tajikistan, which was nearly 5,500 cases fewer than in the same period last year,” Ashouriyon said.

The number of marriages and divorces has reportedly also decreased over the same six-month period.

“About 30,000 marriages have been registered in the country over the first six months of this year, which was nearly 3,000 cases fewer than in January-June last year,” the minister noted.

According to him, some 5,500 divorces have been registered in Tajikistan in January-June this year, which was more than 500 cases fewer than in the same period last year.

More than 6,000 divorces were reportedly registered in the country in January-June last year.
