A 30-year-old lawyer from the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) has reportedly been questioned by security officers after he announced his intention to run for president in the October 11 election.

Several officers from the State Committee for National  (SCNS)’s office in GBAO has visited Faromouz Irgashev at his home in Khorog , Radio Liberty reported on September 4 citing his family.

Current Time, the Russian-language network led by RFE/RL in cooperation with VOA, reported that his family said security officers took him “to have a long walk” and talk.

Recall, Faromouz Irgashev posted a video on social media, announcing his intention to run for president to fight corruption and injustices in the Central Asian country.

Irgashev said he had “many supporters” among the voters.

Little is known yet about Faromouz Irgashev.  He was born in Khorog, the capital of GBAO, on April 2, 19190.  In 2008, Irgashev finished local high school No 6.  In 2013, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Russian-Tajik Slavic University (RTSU) in Dushanbe.  From 2015 to 2020, he was member of the GBAO regional legislature (Majlis).
