President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today met in Dushanbe with US Special Representative for Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad.

Zalmay Khalilzad is in Tajikistan on a working visit, the press service of the head of state reports.

At the meeting, Emomali Rahmon said that Tajikistan supports the position of the Afghan government to ensure peace and stability in this country, and also noted that he welcomes the inter-Afghan negotiation process.

The parties also discussed the development of cooperation between Tajikistan and America in the light of the inter-Afghan negotiations and the current state of security in Afghanistan and in the region as a whole.

It was noted that Tajikistan is taking all measures and will continue to make efforts to help resolve the problems of Afghanistan and its socio-economic recovery.

It was noted the need to expand cooperation in the field of joint struggle against modern threats and challenges, including terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking, etc.
