37 new officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Tajikistan yesterday, bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 10,297 as of the evening of October 13, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP).

79 coronavirus-linked deaths have been reported in Tajikistan as of the evening of October 13, a MoHSPP says.

Meanwhile, the ministry reported recovery of record number of coronavirus patients in the country yesterday.  74 Covid-19 patients were reportedly discharged after recovery yesterday.  In all, 9,177 coronavirus patients have reportedly recovered in the country as of the evening of October 13.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) believes that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will not take place as the growth of the incidence is observed only in some countries as RIA News reported citing Dorit Nitzan, the WHO Regional Emergency Director.

“The types and forms of the coronavirus show that there is no second wave of the pandemic,” Nitzan said.

She noted that “there are countries, where (currently) the growth is observed (of the number of infected with coronavirus) but there are also the countries with decrease.”  The WHO follows the situation daily reviews the situation in the countries, where a decrease of the number of infected people is observed.

According to the WHO representative, many people do not realize the threat of coronavirus due to the fact that only 5% of the world population had a critical illness.
