A Tajik national has been jailed in Russia for aiding and abetting terrorists, according to Interfax. 

Citing press center of the Federal Security Service (FSB)’s regional office, Interfax reports that the Khabarovsk military court sentenced Tajik national Ilhomkhouja Ibrohimjonov to 12 years in prison on October 22.  

The sentence followed his conviction on charges of preparation for participation in a terrorist organization and aiding the activities of a terrorist organization.  Ibrohimjonov will serve his term in a high-security penal colony. 

Investigation into the case of Ibrohimjonov was reportedly launched in September this year.  

The man was living and working as labor migrant in Barnaul, where he came into contact with members of the banned Islamic State (IS) terror group and agreed to join it and go to the conflict zone.

He was collecting information about crowded public areas and sending detailed photographs of buildings with reference to the terrain to militants for cash.  

Ibrohimjonov was reportedly was detained at the Barnaul airport while trying to fly to Moscow and from there to the Middle East for participation in hostilities alongside IS militants.
