The press center of Dushanbe be International Airport (DIA) says  the salary was paid to Sherafgan Khojaqulov, who committed suicide in his workplace Monday afternoon, in full.

“There is a document confirming that his salary was paid in full.  We are shocked by the incident and extend our condolences to his relatives and friends.  We do not know anything about the reasons for the suicide of the security guard.  The transportation prosecutor’s office has launched investigation into the incident,” DIA press center said.

DIA representatives have promised to submit the document confirming that Khojaqulov’s salary was paid in full to the editorial office of Asia-Plus but have not submitted it so far.

Sherafgan’s uncle, Jamshed Davlatov, says he saw his nephew for the last time on Friday.  “He came to me on Friday.  He was upset that salaries were delayed and he was kicked out of a rented apartment,” Davlatov told Asia-Plus in an interview Monday afternoon.

“He said they have not received salaries for nearly nine months.  He was a literate person, I don't know why he decided to take such a step,” Davlatov noted.

Sherafgan’s brother, Umed Khojaqulov, says Sherafgan owed 14,000 somoni for housing rental and was upset in recent days.

“Sherafgan had served as security guard at the Dushanbe airport worked for 6 or 7 years.  Airport managers have not yet extended condolences,” Umed told Asia-Plus today afternoon.

Recall, some media reports say Sherafgan Khojaqulov, 38, committed suicide Sunday afternoon due to salary delays.  Sherafgan reportedly had not received salaries for nine months and he had been kicked out of a rented apartment.

The press center of the Interior Ministry confirmed this fact but said that they did not know the details of the incident.

Meanwhile Sherafgan’s uncle, Jamshed Davlatov, told Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, that his nephew had committed suicide due to delays in the payment of salary.  “He had not received salary or nine months,” Davlatov said.

“Before committing suicide he sent me SMS “take my body from airport,” Jamshed Davlatov told Radio Ozodi in an interview.

Tajik authorities have suspended all international flights.  Tajikistan closed all its airports at midnight on March 19-20 due to the coronavirus concerns.  Only charters flights to repatriate Tajik nationals stranded in foreign countries due to the coronavirus crisis have been operated so far.  In early August, Tajikistan resumed regular flights to Dubai.

In late March, many employees of Dushanbe International Airport have been put on unpaid leave. The majority of employees of airports in Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob, Bokhtar and Khorog as well as Tajik Air Navigation Company have been sent on unpaid vacation amid coronavirus concerns.
