The Government has proposed to rename the Shitkharv jamoat in Ishkashim district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) the Vakhon jamoat (jamoat is the third-level administrative division in Tajikistan, similar to communes or municipalities).

The fourth session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) of the sixth convocation is considering this issue today, a source within the Majlisi Milli told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Besides, Majlisi Milli members will also consider staff changes proposed by President Emomali Rahmon to the Supreme and Constitutional courts of the country.

The head of state has proposed to recall the judge of the Constitutional Court Davron Hoshimzoda and the judges of the Supreme Court Bakhtullo Rahmatullozoda and Davlatmo Dodikhudozod.

Besides, senators will consider more than 20 amendments made to a number of the country’s laws, which were adopted by deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).

Under the country’s Constitution, the Majlisi Milli is empowered to elect and recall the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President.
