Members of Tajikistan’s upper chamber (Majlis Milli) of parliament have discussed the issue of improving the quality of air transport services.

The fourth session of the Majlisi Milli, presided over by its head, Rustam Emomali, took place on December 9.

The session’s agenda reportedly included 38 items, including a number of laws aiming at improving public transport services and strengthening the legal framework in the field of criminal and administrative responsibility.

Speaking at the session, Rustam Emomali, in particular, noted that the current level of services and the quality of onboard meals offered by domestic airlines did not meet the requirements.

Taking into account the protection of rights of consumers of civil aviation services and improving image of the domestic air carriers, he ordered relevant committees of the Majlisi Milli to study the experience of airlines of the advanced countries and offer specific proposals to renew the legal frame of the country’s aviation sector.

Rustam Emomali reportedly also drew attention of Majlisi Milli members on the lack of healthy competition between state-run, private and foreign companies in the sphere of production of goods and provision of services.

According to him, such a situation has arisen due to ineffective regulation of market relations by the relevant structures.

Majlisi Milli members also discussed issues related to providing timely and effective health services as well as providing healthcare workers with necessary equipment and medicines, correct diagnosis of diseases and raising the level of primary health care.

Besides, Majlisi Milli members considered the issue of renaming the Shitkharv jamoat in Ishkashim district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) the Vakhon jamoat (jamoat is the third-level administrative division in Tajikistan, similar to communes or municipalities).

The Government has proposed to rename the Shitkharv jamoat and the Majlis Namoyandagon approved this proposal.

MPs also considered staff changes proposed by President Emomali Rahmon to the Supreme and Constitutional courts of the country.

The head of state has proposed to recall the judge of the Constitutional Court Davron Hoshimzoda and the judges of the Supreme Court Bakhtullo Rahmatullozoda and Davlatmo Dodikhudozod.

Under the country’s Constitution, the Majlisi Milli is empowered to elect and recall the chairman, deputy chairmen, and judges of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, and Supreme Economic Court upon the recommendation of the President.
