According to the data from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), only five new officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Tajikistan yesterday, bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 13,305 as of the evening of January 5, 2021.

Recall, no new officially confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in Tajikistan on December 31, January 1, 3 and 4.

The number of coronavirus-linked deaths remains the same in the country – 90, a MoHSPP says.

Meanwhile, 38 COVID-19 patients reportedly discharged after recovery yesterday.  In all, 13,060 coronavirus patients have reportedly recovered in the country as of the evening of January 5, 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).  The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.

The virus is reportedly affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

Coronavirus cases around the globe have been reported at 86,834,552 since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organization (WHO) in December 2019, Worldometer said today morning (04:33 GMT).  Of them, 61,633,578 have recovered and 1,875,519 have died.

CNN says England entered another national lockdown on Tuesday as coronavirus cases surge in the United Kingdom.

Hospitalizations in the United States reportedly continue to rise following the holidays — and the case surge has also limited the vaccine rollout.

The head of WHO is “very disappointed” that scientists investigating the origins of COVID-19 were prevented from entering China due to delayed paperwork.
