A 41-year-old woman from the northern city of Istaravashan has been detained for renting out her apartment to couples for intimacy, the Interior Ministry’s official website says.

On January 5, 2021, she reportedly rented out her apartment to a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman for 100 somonis. 

On December 9, the woman rented out her apartment to a 21-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman for 200 somonis, according to the Interior Ministry’s website.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the suspect brothel keeper under the provisions of Article 239 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – brothel keeping, pandering or pimping; an investigation is under way.  

The woman can face five years of prison and she can be deprived of parental rights.  

Recall, Tajik authorities are considering legislation to deprive convicted pedophiles, brothel keepers, and procurers of parental rights.

The amendment offered to the Family Code government was sent for consideration to Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament.
