Kazakhstan will provide the next no-strings military and technical aid to Tajikistan.  A relevant agreement signed between the defense ministries of the two countries on this subject has reportedly been sent for ratification to Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament.

The aid will be delivered to Tajikistan by rail.

Tajikistan reportedly receives regular military and technical assistance from Kazakhstan in the framework of a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on military cooperation signed in 1999.

The previous such an aid was provided by Kazakhstan to Tajikistan in 2019.  The assistance including ammunition, engineering and medical equipment, logistics property and means of communications was delivered to Tajikistan by rail  from the Otar station in the Zhambyl region to the Rohati station in Dushanbe.

According to Kazakh media reports, the Tajik side assumed the costs and was responsible for processing customs procedures in Tajikistan, as well as the obligation not to transfer the received property or the right to use it to a third party.

Recall, Tajikistan ranks 99th out of a total of 138 countries worldwide in terms of military strength in the 2021 Global Firepower (GFP) list.

According to GFP list, Tajikistan’s active frontline personnel are 9,000.  Tajikistan reportedly has 253 tanks, 400 armored fighting vehicles, 80 towed artillery guns, and 125 multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRSs).  The country’s Air Force reportedly has 31 aircraft, 4 trainer aircraft, 20 helicopters, 6 attack helicopters and one transport plane.  Tajikistan’s defense budget for 2020 reportedly stood at 79 million U.S. dollars.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan ranks 62nd and its defense budget for 2020 stood at 4 billion U.S. dollars.
