Kyrgyz parliamentarian is threatening the country’s prime minister with scandal if a part of canal overflowing the Tort-Kul reservoir in Batken region is ceded to Tajikistan.

Media reports say scandal may flare up in Kyrgyzstan due to the cession of part of the country's territory to Tajikistan.

Kyrgyz parliamentarians on February 4 demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Ulukbek Maripov about his public statement that a part of the canal overflowing the Tort-Kul reservoir was ceded to Tajikistan.

Speaking at the Jogorku Kenesh, MP Tazabek Ikramov noted on February 4 that the Tort-Kul reservoir is of strategic significance for the country.

He noted that if information about the cession of the border lands of Kyrgyzstan to the neighboring countries is confirmed then a big scandal will break out in Kyrgyzstan.
