Mir Rahman Rahmani, the Speaker of Afghanistan’s lower house (Wolesi Jirga, the House of Representatives), heading an Afghan delegation arrived in Dushanbe on a  working visit on March 27, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Today, Afghan parliament speaker is expected to be received by President Emomali Rahmon and meet with Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, the Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon.

On March 2, Mir Rahman Rahmani is scheduled to hold talks with Tajik minister of economic development and trade and Tajikistan’s chief prosecutor, Sultonov said.

Mir Rahman Rahmani (born 1962) is an Afghan politician and businessman who is the current Speaker of Afghanistan's House of the People (Wolesi Jirga, the House of Representatives), holding the office since June 2019. He has been a member of the Wolesi Jirga since 2010.

He was elected as Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga on June 29, 2019, receiving 136 votes.

The House of Representatives of the People or Da Afghanistan Wolesi Jirga is the lower house of the bicameral National Assembly of Afghanistan, alongside the upper House of Elders.

The House of Representatives of the People is the chamber that bears the greater burden of lawmaking in the country, as with the House of Commons in the Westminster model. It consists of 250 delegates directly elected by single non-transferable vote.  Members are elected by district and serve for five years.  The constitution guarantees at least 68 delegates to be female.  Kuchi nomads elect 10 representatives through a Single National Constituency.

The House of Representatives of the People has the primary responsibility for making and ratifying laws and approving the actions of the president.
