The Drug Control Agency under President of Tajikistan (DCA) reported on April 5 that officers of DCA’s office in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) seized a large amount of narcotic drug in GBAO’s Ishkashim district on March 7 this year.

Resident of the jamoat named after Zamirov, Mahmoud Mirzoyev, 39, was detained don suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.

49 packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to hashish weighing 47.305 kilograms were reportedly confiscated from him.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mirzoyev had illegally acquired a large consignment of narcotic drugs from an Afghan national for the purpose of transferring them to another person, says a press release issued by the DCA..

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Mahmoud Mirzoyev under the provisions of Article 200 (4) and Article 289 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code.

Besides, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Azam Utalbekov, resident Dasht village, and Suhrob Anoyatbekov, resident of Andarob village, under the provisions of Article 347 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code — failure to report or conceal a crime; an investigation is under way.  These citizens were aware of the involvement of Mahmoud Mirzoyev in drug trafficking and did not report this to the law enforcement agencies, the counternarcotics agency says.
