The European Union supports the national consultations that took place on the draft National Human Rights Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan up to 2030 and the Action Plan for 2021-2023 in the conference hall of the Hyatt Regency Hotel on April 7.

The consultations were led by the Presidential Department of Human Rights Guarantees together with the Public Foundation "Notabene".

According to the European Union (EU) Delegation to Tajikistan, the meeting was attended by representatives of the working group on drafting the Strategy and Action Plan, as well as representatives of key government agencies, civil society institutions and international organizations.

The Working Group on the draft Strategy was set up in late 2017 and consists of representatives of the Presidential Executive Office, the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor's Office, the Committee for Women and Family Affairs and the Commissioner for Human Rights.  While drafting these important strategic documents, the Working Group consulted widely with government agencies, civil society institutions and international organizations and took their suggestions into account when drafting the Action Plan.

“When developing strategic documents, not only is the final result in the adopted documents important, but also the consultation process at all stages of drafting.  As the documents were drafted, many meetings were held where we had the opportunity to discuss individual human rights issues with the authorities and jointly seek solutions.  This is the first document in which there was an attempt to analyze a large number of documents in various areas of human rights, to identify which problems may lie in the interactions between state bodies, and, to develop a unified state policy in the field of human rights” – said Nigina Bahriyeva PF Notabene representative, national consultant of the working group.

The numerous recommendations and suggestions received during the national consultations will be taken into account when finalizing the documents.

The national consultations are held within the framework of the project, Promoting Cooperation and Dialogue between the State and Civil Society Institutions in the Field of Human Rights, carried out with the financial support of the European Union.
