The Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan says a conflict between residents of two Tajik and Kyrgyz border villages occurred yesterday at 4:00 pm in the area of the water distribution point “Golovnoy”.

A statement released by the Tajik Border Guard Directorate notes that this water distribution point is located in the upper reaches of the Isfara River near Khojai Alo village in Chrkuh jamoat, which is subordinate to the Tajik northern city of Isfara.

The Border Guard Directorate press center stresses that the conflict was provoked by citizens of Kyrgyzstan and head of Batken district Akylbek Orazov.

“As a result of this incident, seven citizens of Tajikistan sustained injuries in stone throwing,” Tajik Border Guard Directorate said in a statement.

The statement notes that the water distribution point is located away from Kyrgyz settlements, “but Kyrgyz authorities specially mobilize their citizens from remote settlements and incite them to interethnic conflict.”

“According to maps of 1924-1927 and 1989 this hydraulic facility is completely located in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan; it was constructed in 1968 for the implementation of irrigation of farmlands in border districts of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

“However, Kyrgyzstan unilaterally occupied this facility and use Special Force servicemen dressed in civilian uniform against peaceful Tajik-language population of border districts,” the statement said.
