More than 70 women and children were evacuated from border areas of Chorkuh jamoat in the evening of April 29.

They were placed in a dormitory of the Branch of the Technological University of Tajikistan in Isfara.

“The evacuated people were provided with food and basic necessities,” representative of the Branch of the Technological University told Asia-Plus Friday (April 30) afternoon.

Representatives of local authorities noted that the evacuation was undertaken to avoid potential danger, and this is not a mass evacuation of residents of border areas.

Meanwhile, some media reports say that more than 800 Kyrgyz residents were evacuated from several villages engulfed by the clashes.

Recall, fighting broke out late on Wednesday on the border between Tajikistan’s northern Sughd province and Kyrgyzstan’s southern Batken region because of a row over a water distribution facility located in the upper reaches of the Isfara River, which both countries claim as their own.

According to the latest data, more than 20 people were killed and more than 200 others wounded after security forces from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged fire across the border.

According to the data from the Health Ministry of Kyrgyzstan for 7:50 am today morning (Bishkek time), 134 Kyrgyz nationals were wounded and 13 others were killed during the April 28-29 clashes.

later Thursday (April 29) a ceasefire was announced to take effect from 8:00 pm, with armed forces returning to their bases.

Currently, the border areas are relatively calm, but the situation remains tense.
