Five persons were killed on August 12 as a car fell into the Panj River in Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The accident took place in the morning on the 390th kilometer of the Dushanbe-Kulob-Khorog highway near the village of Vishkharv.

The driver apparently lost control of his Lexus and it fell into the Panj River.

“At the moment, the bodies of two people and a coffin with the body of the deceased have been found, the fate of three other persons remains unclear” Mouso Mirzozoda said, noting that the search operation is under way.

A resident of Baghush village, whom Asia-Plus contacted by phone, confirmed that all victims of the accident are members of the same family.

“Nisobegim Murodmamadova together with her husband Tillo Kholdorbekov, her son Vafo Tillobek and her nephew Ruslan Shakar were carrying Nisobegim mother’s coffin from Dushanbe to Ishkashim,” the source said, noting that the driver – Shodibek Zerakov – was also their close relative.
