On Thursday August 26, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, together with the First Deputy Chairperson of Rushan District in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Gulmast Dustalizoda, participated in a handover ceremony of “The Project for Provision of Drinking Water in Abdulvosiyev Jamoat, Rushan District” implemented by the Government of Japan under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
According to the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, the total grant amount of US$89,270 was allocated to the local authority of Rushan district for installation of 8-kilometer pipeline for providing safe drinking water.
Before the project implementation, residents of Shidz village and Sanobod village of Abdulvosiyev jamoat spent much time and energy to get drinking water from the source of water located 2 kilometers far from the villages. With the project completion, around 1,100 local residents of two villages have got access to the safe drinking water.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Miyashita made the following remarks, “Water is life! Clean and safe water is essential for everyone. It will avoid waterborne disease and it will contribute to a healthy life of the people. Through this project, you need not any more to walk long distance to fetch water and you can use the time for other productive purposes. I hope this water supply system will be maintained properly and be used for many years. Hopefully this water supply system will be also used by the residents of next generations.”

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan. Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs. As of today, GGP has supported 424 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which US$34.3 million has been allocated since 1996.
