The United States of America, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), donated the first shipment to Tajikistan – about 115,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine to fight COVID-19. The remaining doses will arrive later this week for a total of 325,260.

Pfizer's vaccine delivery to Tajikistan is part of a US government donation of 500 million doses of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine to the Center for Global Access to COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX) for use worldwide, noted in a press release from the diplomatic department.

This donation is in addition to the 1.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the United States to Tajikistan on July 26, 2021.

COVAX also provided Tajikistan with 461,440 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccine through multiple shipments.

In addition, eight ultra-freezers of 258 liters each have been delivered to the National Immunization Center, and five of them have already been connected through UNICEF's efforts. The US government has also contributed to the technology that Tajikistan is using for the first time.

US Ambassador to Tajikistan John Mark Pommersheim emphasized:

«This additional vaccine supply will save even more lives. I am proud to work with the Government of Tajikistan in the fight against the pandemic. Working together we can stop this deadly scourge and rebuild our economy. We will continue to help the people of Tajikistan defeat this virus, and together, we will overcome this crisis!».
