On Saturday October 2, at the initiative of the Pakistani side, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The leaders of the two countries reportedly continued their dialogue related to regional security with an emphasis on the situation in Afghanistan on the basis of Tajik-Pakistani meeting that took place in Dushanbe.

President Rahmon stressed that the situation in this neighboring country is still in the center of Tajikistan's attention, as all the events that occur there have a direct impact on the security situation in the region as a whole.

In this regard, he noted that the establishment of a broad dialogue between various forces is one of the important factors in restoring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Tajik leader reiterated Tajikistan’s readiness for constructive cooperation with all stakeholders in order to facilitate this process.

Both sides reportedly reaffirmed their intention to continue contacts and consultations between the two nations related to the Afghan situation at all levels.

The two sides also exchanged views on the current aspect of the bilateral agenda in a follow-up to the recent Tajik-Pakistani meeting held on the sidelines of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan to Tajikistan.

Pakistani media reports say Pakistani Prime Minister Office cited that Imran Khan expressed gratitude to President Rahmon for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during the recent visit.

The premier reportedly shared Pakistan’s contribution to efforts for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan and also reiterated the significance of national reconciliation in this context. He also underscored the urgent imperative to address the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.

Khan further emphasized the crucial role of the international community in providing basic humanitarian assistance to the war-ravaged country.

The two leaders reportedly agreed to remain in close contact with a view to further coordinating their efforts in support of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Citing Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), International Tribune says Imran Khan highlighted the "immediate" importance of economic engagement with Afghanistan to prevent economic meltdown and to alleviate the sufferings of common people.
