On October 5, Japan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan Takayuki Miyashita together with the head of Devashtich District Ashourali Jalilzoda attended a handover ceremony of the Project for Construction of School No.59 in Surkhobcha Village, Isomoili Somoni Jamoat, Devashtich District.
The ceremony was also attended by local officials, parents, students and community members.
Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says the project has been implemented by the State Executive Body of Devashtich District and funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP. The GGP grant with total amount of US$90,210 was efficiently used for improvement of educational environment and boosting of students’ enrollment.
Prior to the implementation of the project, the school building had been damaged by natural disasters such as heavy rains and earthquakes. With the successful project implementation, students can study in new school building safely.
During the ceremony, Mr. Miyashita made the following remarks: “It is my great pleasure to handover this brand-new school building with one computer room to the students of Surkhobcha Village. To commemorate 30th Anniversary of the State Independence of Tajikistan, the construction of this school was completed on time. On behalf of the Government and people of Japan, I would like to congratulate the Chairman of the District, students and parents of School No.59 as well as residents of the village for the timely completion of the school building. I hope the school will be maintained well and continued to be used for many years to come.”
Mr. Jalilzoda expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.
The handover ceremony marks the expansion of contribution of the Government of Japan in promoting quality education in Tajikistan. Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 434 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$35.5 million has been provided since 1996.
