The Board of the National Bank of Tajikistan approved its decision to open a representative office of the Agricultural Bank of China in Tajikistan, the press service of the Tajik regulator reports.

The Banking Supervision Department of the NBT is instructed to enter the representative office of a Chinese bank in the relevant register.

Currently, there are 15 commercial banks in Tajikistan, including: 1 Islamic bank, 2 state banks and 2 foreign – a branch of the Iranian "Tijoratbank" and a subsidiary of the Kazakh "Halyk Bank".

The issue of opening a Chinese bank in Tajikistan in recent years has been discussed in various unofficial circles, the need for the presence of such an organization is justified by the economic activity of Chinese companies in the republic.

Back in 2017-2018, there were rumors about the acquisition of troubled Tajiksodirotbank by Chinese investors. However, this did not happen, and the Tajik bank, the backbone until 2016, is currently being liquidated.

Agricultural Bank of China is one of the largest banks in terms of assets not only in China, but also in the world. The bank is headquartered in Beijing.
