More than 4 million residents of Tajikistan have reportedly been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far

As of January 20, 2022, 4,312,774 residents of Tajikistan have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Navrouz Jafarov, an official with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP), told Asia-Plus yesterday afternoon.

According to him, 5,826,301 residents of Tajikistan aged 18 and over must receive COVID-19 vaccine.

“At least 79 percent of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to date and at least 63 percent of Tajikistan’s adult population has got both COVID-19 vaccine shots as of January 20,” Jafarov noted. 

Meanwhile, a COVID-19 revaccination campaign has been launched in Tajikistan.  “Health workers in Dushanbe are reportedly the first to receive the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and we are currently waiting for list of health workers from the regions,” Jafarov told Asia-Plus on January. 

“For revaccination of all residents of Tajikistan, we are waiting for permission from the Standing Committee on COVID-19 Response,” Tajik health official added.

Revaccination is the act of administering a vaccine again some period after an initial vaccination especially to strengthen or renew the immune response

In Tajikistan, COVID-19 vaccination is compulsory for people aged 18 and over.  Five types of the COVID-19 vaccine are currently used for vaccination of the population in Tajikistan: CoronaVac; AstraZeneca; Moderna; Pfizer; and Sputnik V.   

According to the latest statistics and official information about the coronavirus situation posted on the MoHSPP’s website on December 6, 2021, there have been 17,095 infections and 124 coronavirus-related deaths reported in Tajikistan since the pandemic began.  16,966 COVID-19 patients have reportedly recovered.
