How much urban and rural households in Tajikistan spend on food?

It turned out that the difference in rural-urban households food spending on food is actually not very big;  somewhere rural residents are rescued by subsidiary farming, but it is more expensive to bring imported food products to them. 

According to the food security data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, monthly household spending per family member increased in the country on average by almost 19 percent.  

As a basis, we took only the cost of basic food products and consumption is described per person, while   expenses are described for a four-person family.  

We took official figures from the Agency for Statistics and the real amounts were given to us by the people themselves. 

It is to be noted that an official average monthly wage in Tajikistan is 1,600 somonis and Dushanbe — more than 2,200 somonis.  

Meanwhile, an official average monthly wage in Tajikistan’s agrarian sector is 600.00 somonis.  

            According to official data, urban household spends per family member on food on average about 1,800 somonis per month, while rural household spends per family member on food on average about 1,365 somonis per month. 

The real amount is 1,950 somonis for urban household and 1,360 somonis for rural household.  

 

Bread and bakery products consumption per family member per month: urban household — 13.68 kilograms; rural household – 13.43 kilograms.   

Expenses: urban household – 394 somonis; rural household – 387 somonis.  

 

Meat and meat products consumption per family member per month: urban household – 10.00 kilograms; rural household – 8.00 kilograms.   

Expenses: urban household – 560 somonis; rural household – 700 somonis.  

 

Milk consumption per family member per month: urban household – 3.9 liters; rural household – 5.0 liters.     

Expenses: urban household – 120 somonis; rural household – 90 somonis.  

 

Consumption of eggs per family member per month: urban household – 15 pieces; rural household – 13 pieces.     

Expenses: urban household – 84 somonis; rural household – 72 somonis.  

 

Vegetable oil consumption per family member per month: urban household – 1.69 liters; rural household – 1.45 liters.     

Expenses: urban household – 175 somonis; rural household – 150 somonis.   

 

Sugar consumption per family member per month: urban household – 1.48 kilograms; rural household – 1.44 kilograms.     

Expenses: urban household – 175 somonis; rural household – 150 somonis. 

 

Consumption of vegetables and melons and gourds per family member per month: urban household – 10.66 kilograms; rural household – 10.40 kilograms.     

Expenses: urban household – 255 somonis; rural household – 249 somonis. 

 

Consumption of fruits and berries per family member per month: urban household – 3.11 kilograms; rural household – 3.27 kilograms.     

Expenses: urban household – 155 somonis; rural household – 163 somonis.  

 

Potato consumption per family member per month: urban household – 3.30 kilograms; rural household – 3.54 kilograms.     

Expenses: urban household – 66 somonis; rural household – 71 somonis.
