Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Orienbonk has opened its representative office in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent.

On August 3, OJSC Orienbonk was accredited with the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.  The accreditation is reportedly valid until August 2, 20225.

By opening its representative office in Tashkent, Orienbonk has brought the number of foreign banks’ representative offices in the Uzbek capital to eight.

It is to be noted that representative offices of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank (the United States), Gazprombank (Russia), Commerzbak AG and Landensbank Baden-Wurttemberg (both are of Germany), as well as Kyongnam Bank, Shinhan Bank and Korea Eximnbank (they are all Korean banks) now operate in Uzbekistan.

The bank representative office means banking unit which doesn’t run banking business, domiciled in different place than bank headquarter at and it aims to represent the bank legally at wherever e.g. to protect and foster any legitimate interest of the bank and make agreement on behalf of the bank.

Orienbonk is Tajikistan’s second largest commercial bank following Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank).

OJSC Orienbonk is one of Tajikistan largest commercial banks.  It was established as the Tajik branch of Stroybank of the former Soviet Union in 1959, and it initially specialized in financing the manufacturing, transportation, communication, government and public organizations and individuals.  In the late 1980s, Stroybank and Gosbank were reorganized and the Republican Gosbank and universal specialized banks, including Tajikpromstroybank (state-run commercial and construction bank), were established on their basis.

In 1991, Tajikpromstroybank was reorganized into a stock company, and on December 29, 1991, it was reorganized into a Manufacturing-Construction Bank Orienbonk.  It was registered with the National Bank of Tajikistan and owns license №1.  On April 5, 2002, the Joint-Stock Manufacturing-Construction Bank Orienbonk was renamed and registered as Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Orienbonk.

Headquartered in Dushanbe, Orienbonk has thirty-two twenty-seven branches and 237 banking service centers in all regions of the country.

Recall.  Alif was the first among foreign companies to receive the payment organization license from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.  Its two affiliates – Alifmobi and Alif Sarmoya – have operated in Uzbekistan for already three years.  Alif Sarmoya has received a resident status at the IT Park in Uzbekistan, while Alifmobi, a fintech affiliate of Alif, has received the payment organization license from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

Founded in 2014 as microfinance institution, Alif Bank over the past seven and a half years has developed into one of the leading fintech companies in the country, offering its clients an ecosystem of technological and financial solutions.  Supported by a wide range of banking technologies written in-house, Alif Bank today provides the most widely used finance app in the country (alif.mobi), is a clear leader in the POS (point-of-sale) financing and online B2C platform (alif.shop).  Alif Bank has more than 1,500 partner companies in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia as well as its own products developed by programmers from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  All products meet the required safety standards.
