Emomali Rahmon, as part of his participation in the SCO summit in Samarkand, met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, whom he congratulated on the successful chairmanship of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

At the meeting, the presidents discussed topical issues of further development of cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, further promotion of interaction between the two countries was recognized as meeting the fundamental interests and aspirations of the two fraternal peoples, the press service of the President of Tajikistan reports.

"The parties highly appreciated the results of high-level confidential talks during the recent visit of the President of Tajikistan to Uzbekistan. Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that the systematic implementation of the agreements reached would give a qualitatively new impetus to the interaction of the parties in all aspects", – the message says.

Trade and economic cooperation was named a priority area of relations between the two countries.
