The behavior of persons wanting to obtain the Russian citizenship has reportedly changed in connection with partial mobilization announced in Russia.

Foreign citizens staying in Russia have suspended obtaining a Russian passport  being satisfied with a temporary stay permit or a residence permit, Vyacheslav Postavnin, Head of the Center for Analytical and Practical Studies of Migration Processes, told in an interview with Izvestiya on October 17.

“Citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan still strive to work and live in Russia.  Secondly, these are citizens of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Ukrainians and citizens of Moldova.  Actually as it was before.  After all, the work there did not increase and they didn't get a better life.  In Russia, there is also employment and a high level of wages,” Postavnin said.

Meanwhile, the behavior of persons wanting to obtain the Russian citizenship has changed in connection with partial mobilization announced in Russia, he noted.

“First of all, it is a matter of citizens of those countries whose leadership forbade its citizens to participate in fighting in Ukraine up to and including criminal liability. Citizens of Tajikistan were especially tense,” the expert stated.

According to him, now there is a tendency that foreigners “suspend the process of obtaining a [Russian] passport being satisfied with a temporary stay permit or a residence permit.”

“With these documents you can live, you can work.  Foreign women who do not fall under partial mobilization continue receiving Russian passports as before,” Postavnin added.
