Tajikistan’s 2023 budget earmarks about 1.5 billion somonis in subventions to pay salaries of employees of federally funded institutions in some regions and districts of the country.

These funds will be channeled to local budgets of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Khatlon province and nine districts subordinate to the center.

Thus, the Khatlon province will receive about 838 million somonis in subventions and GBAO will receive 259 million somonis.

  Besides, subventions will be distributed among nine districts subordinate to the center as follows:

Varzob district – 18.9 million somonis;

Rasht district – 63 million somonis;

Lakhsh district – 44 million somonis;

Nourobod district – 49 million somonis;

Roudaki district – 64 million somonis;

Sangvor district – 18 million somonis;

Tojikobodo district – 31 million somonis;

Faizobod district – 55 million somonis;

Shahrinav district – 40 million somonis.

Subvention refers to a grant of money in aid or support, mostly by the government.  Subventions are provided for a fixed period and for specific purposes, and are refundable if they are not used in a timely manner for a predetermined purpose.
