Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today morning received Rustam Minnikhanov, Head of Russia’s Tatarstan Republic, who arrived in Dushanbe as member of Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin that arrived in Tajikistan on a two-day working visit Thursday morning.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon noted in the course of the talks that cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia at the level of regions “is an important vector of a wide spectrum of Tajikistan-Russia relationships, including economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

In this context, interest was expressed in further expansion of cooperation with the Republic of Tatarstan, which “is one of the leading regions of Russia in economic terms.”

Sectors like mining, oil-and-gas and chemical industries, light and food industries, construction, transportation, agriculture, tourism and pharmaceutics were outlined as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Russia’s Tatarstan Republic.

Tatarstan is a republic of the Russian Federation, located in Eastern Europe.  It is a part of the Volga Federal District; and its capital and largest city is Kazan, an important cultural center in Russia.

Tatarstan is one of the most economically developed regions of Russia. The republic is highly industrialized and ranks second to Samara Oblast in terms of industrial production per square kilometer.
