Suhaili Aliyev, a resident of Mehrobod village in Faizobod district, some 60 kilometers east of Dushanbe, has got a lengthy jail term for beating his cohabitant to death, the official website of the Prosecutor-General’s Office reported on February 25.

The Faizobod district court reportedly sentenced Suhaili Aliyev to 12 ½ years in prison on December 9, 2022.  The sentenced followed his conviction on the charge of intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm (Article 110 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code.  Aliyev is serving his term in a high-security penal colony.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office says the incident took place on September 20 last year.   On September 20 at around 10:00 pm, Aliyev drank about 500 grams of vodka in “Samirjon” entertainment center in Lolagi village, where his girlfriend — Mehrangez Raupova — worked as a dancer. The man then left the center with his girlfriend.

When they came to a rented apartment, Aliyev reportedly made a scandal, being jealous because of her dancing with another man, and began to beat the woman.

Aliyev hit the woman, after which she fell to the ground.  The man continued to beat and kick her in front of her six-year-old son. As a result, the woman died from beatings on the spot, the Prosecutor-General’s Office said.
