On Thursday February 9, a meeting of the Tajik Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) took place in Dushanbe, the press center of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on March 10.

The parties reportedly discussed issues related to development of a draft program aimed at improving the entrepreneurial environment and supporting public debt management in Tajikistan.

During the meeting, the ADB representatives noted that 50 million US dollars are provided for supporting the entrepreneurial environment improvement program, according to the MoF press center.

The main objective of the program is reportedly in creating new jobs for youth and women, improving the small and medium-sized enterprises registration system, as well as developing digitalization and electronic commerce.

The parties also discussed a number of other issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank, the MoF press center said.

Since Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, the Bank has provided over US$2.5 billion in assistance to the country, including over US$1.9 billion in grants.

ADB’s 2021–2025 Country Partnership Strategy for Tajikistan focuses on three strategic priorities: structural reforms to enhance resource allocation and mobilization; improving labor productivity through human capital development; and fostering better livelihoods by investing in the land-linked economy.

Established in 1966, the Asian Development Bank is owned by 68 members—49 from the region.
