REN TV says law enforcement officers in the Russian oblast of Samara are searching for a Tajik national who escaped from the settlement colony in the city of Tolyatti.

The incident reportedly took place on March 9 and escape of the prisoner was discovered after midnight.

“A 28-year-old man got out of the window of the third floor of the building on Komsomolskaya Street and left the settlement colony where he served the sentence without authorization,” REN TV reports, citing its sources.

The Tajik national previously lived in Chelyabinsk and was convicted of theft.  According to REN TV, he has served his jail term in the settlement colony since November 2022 and should have been released in July 2024.   Investigation into the circumstances of the escape is under way.
