President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on his working visit to the northern province of Sughd, yesterday participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the second line of the metallurgical plant in the Tajikistan-China industrial zone in the city of Istiqlol (formerly Taboshar).

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Tajik-Sino Mining Company will build the enterprise that will process copper, led and silver.  The estimated budget for the project is 50 million U.S. dollars.

The company is expected to complete the project until the end of 2024.   30 hectares of land has been allocated for the construction of the enterprise’s main building.

The Tajik president’s official website says the manufactured products are metallic lead of 99.99%, silver of 99.99% and copper of 45%.  The new industrial capacity will be the production of electrolytic lead in the amount of 30,000 tons, electrolytic silver in the amount of 50 tons and copper matte in the amount of 600 tons in the amount of 104.1 million somonis per year.

Tajik-Sino Mining Company reportedly plans to invest 400 million US dollars in the implementation of various projects in the country during 2023-2026 and increase the number of employees in all relevant sectors to 5,000 people.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon on November 16, 2017 attended an official ceremony of introducing the first line of the metallurgical enterprise of Tajik-Sino Mining Company into operation.  More than 600 people work for this enterprise.  The enterprise reportedly poured the first ever lead bars in Tajikistan.   Emomali Rahmon made mark No1 on the first lead bar.

Construction of this metallurgical enterprise officially commenced in April 2014 and 57 million U.S. dollars have reportedly been spent for construction of this enterprise.

More than 600 people now work for this enterprise with annual capacity of 50,000 tons of lead.

Istiqlol was not chosen by chance.  This city has great opportunities for the construction of new industrial enterprises.

Tajik-Sino Mining Company is located in the settlement of Zarnisor, which is administratively subordinate to the city of Guliston (formerly Qairoqqum), Sughd province.  The enterprise was granted licenses for development of the lead and zinc deposits Altyn-Topkan and Pay-Buloq.

Istiqlol (formerly Taboshar) is a city of regional subordination, administratively subordinated to Sughd’s capital, Khujand.  The first Soviet uranium mine was established in Taboshar during the World War II.  Taboshar was the first of many officially secret Soviet closed cities related to uranium mining and production.
