The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has instructed heads of road management agencies and road supervision agencies of regions, cities and districts to take adequate measures to ensure regular operation of the transport sector in autumn-winter 2023-2024 and in collaboration with local governments and with attraction of local entrepreneurs to ensure construction and rehabilitation of rural roads and their facilities.

The MoT press center says these issues were discussed at an enlarged meeting of the transport Ministry Board that took place in Dushanbe on April 14.

The meeting reportedly reviewed the results of work carried out during the first quarter of this year and set tasks for the second half of this year.

A special attention was reportedly paid to regulation of traffic flows.   The Road Management Directorate, the State Service for Transport Regulation and Supervision, relevant project implementation units (PIUs) and other relevant agencies are instructed in collaboration with the Interior Ministry Traffic Police Directorate to completely ban heavy vehicle (vehicles with a carrying capacity of 40 tons or more – Asia-Plus) traffic in order to prevent premature destruction and deformation of highways, ensure high quality and timely completion of construction work and eliminate the shortcomings in the public investment projects.

It was noted at the meeting that 2,328 economic entities with different forms of property have operated in the country’s market of transport services as of April 1, 2023.

577,300 vehicles, including 50,248 trucks, 15,587 public transport vehicles, 507,661 private vehicles, 1,780 special vehicles and 2,036 motorcycles have been registered in Tajikistan as April 1, 2023.

According to official statistical data, all types of transportation have shipped 23,338,600 tons of cargo over the first three months of this year, which is 10.8 percent more than in the same period last year.

The proportion of cargo shipments by automotive transportation in the overall amount of shipments was more than 93.1 percent.

Over the same three-month period, 218,335,500 people have been carried by all types of passenger transportation, which is 11.3 percent more than in January-March last year.

Of the overall quantity of passenger carriage 96.5 percent have been carried by automotive transportation.
