Kazakhstan is currently discussing the issue of importing early onions from Tajikistan and stabilizing prices for early onions, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration says.

In early March, Kazakhstan signed an agreement with Tajikistan on delivering Tajik early vegetables to Kazakhstan in the off-season.

In exchange for Tajik early vegetables, Kazakhstan will export wheat and flour to Tajikistan.

This agreement was reportedly signed in Dushanbe during a working visit of Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration, Arman Shakkaliyev, to Tajikistan.

It was reportedly noted during meeting with Tajik officials that Tajikistan has all necessary opportunities to grow organic crops, plant intensive gardens, create livestock and poultry farms.

Meanwhile, according to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Tajikistan this year has allocated 17,000 to onion cultivation and Tajik farmers are expected to produce 747,000 of onions this year.

Tajikistan’s annual requirements in onions are 250,000-300,000 tons.  Thus, Tajikistan will be able not only to satisfy the needs of the population in onions but also to export surplus.
