Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday held phone talks with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

The parties reportedly discussed bilateral cooperation between their countries, including the holding of a session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation in the near future. 

Rahmon and Mirziyoyev also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.  

Meanwhile, Uzbek president’s press service says Rahmon warmly congratulated Mirziyoyev on the successful holding of a nationwide referendum on introducing amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The progressive strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and the growing dynamics of trade and economic cooperation was reportedly noted with particular satisfaction.

The presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan noted the importance of carefully preparing the agenda for the Second Forum of Regions to accelerate ongoing cooperation projects and develop new areas of practical interaction.

Views were exchanged on issues of regional cooperation, including in the context of preparations for the upcoming Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the Uzbek president’s press service noted.
