Top Russian diplomat pays official visit to Tajikistan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, is starting his two-day official visit to Tajikistan today. 

While in Dushanbe, Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, says a statement released by the Russian MFA on June 4.  

The parties are expected to discuss a number of topical issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan, “further development of the alliance of Moscow and Dushanbe in political, economic and humanitarian areas.”   

A special attention will be paid to further deepening of foreign policy coordination of Russia and Tajikistan within multilateral organizations such as the Collective Security Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as well as within the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Top Russian diplomat also plans to meet with young diplomats, students, journalists and representatives of expert and scientific circles of Tajikistan at the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University, attend the presentation of the book collection entitled “Russian Classical Writers and Orthodoxy” and visit the headquarters of the Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan.  

It is to be noted that the visit of top Russian diplomat takes place after the China-Central Asia Summit that took place in the second half of May and the 2nd  EU-Central Asia Summit that took place last week.
