Tajikistan's Children's Ombudsman's Office said in its annual report on June 11 that 69 people younger than 18, including 38 boys and 31 girls, committed suicide in Tajikistan last year, the Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, reported on June11.

The report says six of those teens had mental disorders.

Although the number is one-quarter the number of suicides among teenagers in 2021, the situation remains worrisome, the report notes.

Four people were brought to justice for actions that led to a child's suicide, the report says.

The annual report by Tajikistan's Children's Ombudsman's Office notes that there have been many cases of young women killing themselves and their children because of domestic violence in Tajikistan in recent years.

Domestic violence, whether physical abuse or another form of harm, may lead to undesirable consequences, including divorce, suicide and serious crimes…   Cases when mothers commit filicide-suicide cause serious concern,” the report noted.

Suicide in teens and young adults has caused serious concern of Tajik society.
