A 65-yerar-old man from the city of Tursunzoda, some 60 kilometers west of Dushanbe, has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 51-year-old son-in-law.

An official source within the Interior Ministry says the man is suspected of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of his son-in-law.

“The conflict between the men took place on the evening of June 10, when the 51-year-old man came to the suspect's home to take away his wife,” said the source.  “The man cursed his wife and father-in-law and beat him.  These actions of the son-in-law pissed off the man, and he hit him on the head with a ketmen (and instrument shared by all Central Asians, meaning a hoe and it is used to dig the ground for a variety of purposes – Asia-Plus).”

According to him, the son-in-law sustained serious injuries and died in hospital.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the man; an investigation is under way.
