The Prosecutor-General’s Office of the Russian Federation has granted Tajikistan's request for extradition of Yusuf Salikhov, who is accused of mass murder that was committed in the Tajik southern city of Sarband (current Levakant in Khatlon province) in October 1992.
After committing the crime, the man was hiding in the territory of the Russia Federation, the press service of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of the Russian Federation says.
According to the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office, Salikhov is suspected of killing twenty-two people.
On October 14, 1992, Salikhov together with accomplices to the crime broke into a house in Sarband with the intent to steal property and shot the family with an assault rifle, doused the bodies with gasoline and set them on fire. Two of the victims managed to survive.
Subsequently, Salikhov left the territory of Tajikistan and for a long time he was hiding from justice in the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Bokhtar city court in March last year reportedly allowed taking the man into custody and he was put on the wanted list.
After his detention, the Russian side granted the request of the Tajik Prosecutor-General’s Office for extradition of Salikhov
The decision on extradition entered into force and the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation has been instructed to transfer the accused.
