According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, 5.13 million foreign citizens and stateless persons were registered for migration in Russia in the first half of 2023. Of these, there are 1.28 million citizens of Tajikistan, RBC reports.

It is noted that the majority of residents of the republic come to Russia for work (963.49 thousand people). By the end of the first half of the year, 128.15 thousand residents of Tajikistan had valid residence permits. A positive decision on the issuance of a Russian passport was made in respect of 86.96 thousand Tajik citizens.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry, in the first half of the year, foreigners and stateless persons committed 22.4 thousand crimes in Russia, which is 6.3% more than in the same period last year.

And since May of this year, security forces have been conducting raids in Russian cities in places of compact residence of foreign citizens, actions are still being held.

In early June, the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon sent an urgent telegram to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the mass detentions of migrant workers.

Raids are taking place all over Russia, including in Novosibirsk, where 24.7 thousand citizens of Tajikistan have registered for migration since the beginning of the year, losing the championship to migrants from Uzbekistan (28.2 thousand people).

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Tajikistan in Russia, in response to a request from RBC, told about the results of the visit by representatives of the republic of Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The purpose of the trip was to get acquainted with the living and working conditions of Tajik citizens in the Russian Federation.

Delegates worked in Russian cities from August 6 to August 11. During this time, they met with migrant workers from Tajikistan, representatives of diasporas and entrepreneurs, with whom they discussed "issues of expanding cooperation between public associations and helping to solve the problems of migrant workers, new ways to combat crime, especially among young people, issues of compliance with the laws and traditions of the country of residence."

The press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that representatives of Tajikistan notified about their visit "officially and in advance, in full compliance with the norms of diplomatic practice." The Foreign Ministry noted that, as far as they know, the members of the delegation were satisfied with the results of the trip, considering communication with the diaspora "as very useful and fruitful."

"Labor migration to Russia is a long-term trend that is mutually beneficial. In this context, the Russian profile structures draw the partners' special attention to the need to carry out systematic information and explanatory work with their communities in order for their members to comply with Russian legislation and prevent involvement in destructive activities," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
