President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon instructed the Foreign Ministry to notify the General Secretariat of the Institute of Standards and Metrology of Islamic Countries (SMIIC) of the republic's accession to this organization.

The corresponding presidential decree, signed on August 8 this year, is posted on the portal of legal information of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The document notes that Tajikistan will be represented at this Institute by the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The Institute of Standards and Metrology of Islamic Countries, whose members are currently 42 countries of the world, was established under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on November 7, 1999 to harmonize existing standards and prepare new standards.

This association is aimed at achieving uniformity in metrology, laboratory testing, certification and accreditation among the member States.

As part of the SMIIC organization, 18 technical committees operate in different directions, which have developed 35 standards, including general requirements for the production, storage, transportation and sale of halal products.

According to various sources, currently the turnover of "halal" products in the world exceeds $ 2 trillion. According to experts' forecasts, by 2025 the share of such products may amount to at least 20% of all manufactured products.
