Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi has said that Iran and Tajikistan are determined to expand relations in all fields, with parliaments of the two countries playing a key part in implementing joint agreements.

According to IRNA, President Raisi made the comment at a meeting with Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) that took place in Dushanbe on November 8.

Raisi reportedly said that the two countries are determined to develop their ties, and called for stepping up efforts to use the existing capacities to achieve that goal.

IRNA notes that Tajikistan’s speaker, for his part, said that the expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, which protects the interests of both nations, is useful for the two sides.

He reportedly also referred to Iran’s and Tajikistan’s membership in regional organizations such as the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), describing it as an opportunity which the two countries should use to achieve further economic growth.

Recall, the Iranian president arrived in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, earlier on Wednesday on the first leg of a regional tour that also took him yesterday to Uzbekistan.  While in Dushanbe, Raisi has also met with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon.
