On March 5, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with his Iranian counterpart  Hossein Amirabdollahian on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), according to the Tajik MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, the two reportedly  discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.

The parties also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including the current situation in Palestine, the Tajik MFA information department says.

Meanwhile, Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA reports that during the meeting, Amirabdollahian described the two nations of Iran and Tajikistan as relatives, underlining the importance of enhancing bilateral relations.

The Iranian foreign minister reportedly further expressed Iran’s readiness to fully implement the mutual agreements previously signed by the two sides.

In his remarks, Amirabdollahian also said there is good potential for fostering bilateral cooperation in transit, energy, scientific and educational areas.

The Islamic Republic welcomes the continuation of political consultations between the two countries, he said, expressing gratitude to Tajikistan for its supportive stance on Palestine.

Top Tajik diplomat, for his part, reportedly appreciated Iran’s initiative of calling for an OIC emergency meeting.

Tajikistan prioritizes strengthening of relations with the Islamic Republic, Muhriddin said.

He also called for the expansion of Dushanbe-Tehran ties.

In the course of the talks, the two foreign ministers reportedly also reviewed the issues related to Afghanistan.
