Director of the city post office in Vahdat Township faces charge of embezzling almost 161,000 somonis of state funds, the press center of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption under the Government of Tajikistan reported on March 15.

During four years, from 2019 to 2023, J.S. Toirov, the director of Vahdat city office, which is subordinate to the Service of Communications under the Government of Tajikistan, reportedly embezzled 160,957 somonis of state funds.

According to the anticorruption agency, he had not sent the funds, “received  from supplying printed publications to the government-run agencies in the region, to the treasury but embezzled them.”

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Toirov under the provisions of Article 245 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – large-scale fund embezzlement.

This article stipulates that a large-scale fund embezzlement is punishable by a fine in the amount of 1,824 to 2,700  calculating indicators (Current calculating indicator is equal to 72.00 somonis) or by up to 15 years in jail.
