Russian media outlets report that State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament) Deputy Speaker said that creation of a digital profile for every migrant worker coming to Russia is planned to track migrant's movements.

According to him, the issue of toughening control over migrant workers has been raised at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Interfax reported on March 28.

“Of course, the issue of labor migration was raised. The issue is a sensitive one, but it needs a thorough, thoughtful approach,” Neverov said on his Telegram channel after the meeting with Mishustin on March 28, according to Interfax.

“Labor migration should be ensured by employers' responsibility in the sense that if people have come to work, they work for them, and if they are fired, relevant bodies are notified immediately," he said.

“Digital profiles of people who come to work will be created.  Where they go, when their permits expire, where they live, with whom.  Any change of jobs, dismissals – everything should be under control,” Neverov said.

“Ultimately, this is not only an issue of security, but also an issue of observing migrant workers' rights,” the State Duma deputy speaker said, adding that this issue will be discussed on April 3 during the government's report.
