As part of his official visit to Vatican City State, President Emomali Rahmon on April 26 held talks with Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

In the course of the talks, the parties reportedly discussed issues related to strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation.

Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Vatican’s Secretary of State for the warm welcome and expressed satisfaction with the beginning of a new stage in the development of relations between Tajikistan and the Vatican.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly exchanged views on current issues on the global and regional agenda.

The central topics of the conversation were issues ensuring peace and stability, tolerance, harmony and strengthening the dialogue of civilizations.

They reportedly also exchanged views on a number of other issues being of mutual of interest.

Meanwhile, Catholic World News (CWN) says Rahmon met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. The parties discussed “the good relations between the Holy See and Tajikistan,” “some aspects of the country’s political and socio-economic situation,” and “the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding between peoples and cultures for the promotion of peace and stability,” according to a Vatican statement.
