A forum of representatives of business communities of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan with participation of Tajikistan Minister of Industry and New Technologies Sherali Kabir and Azerbaijan Minister of Economy Mikail Jabbarov took place in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, on May 20.  More than 200 people from both sides participated in the event.  

Tajikistan’s state-run news agency Khovar says the parties discussed the opportunities of collaboration in industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, energy, services, information technologies and other priority areas.  

Speaking at the forum, Sherali Kabir reportedly invited Azerbaijani entrepreneurs and investors to participate in priority investment projects in Tajikistan.

Nekrui Zabirzoda, an official with the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management of Tajikistan (GosKomInvest), reported on opportunities of investing in Tajikistan’s economy.  

The event participants also held meetings in B2B (business to business) and B2G (business to government) formats and more than 15 new cooperation documents totaling 700 million US dollars were signed, according to Khovar.   

The forum participants reportedly highly appreciated development of the bilateral relations and signing of mutually beneficial agreements and контрактов covering all areas of economic cooperation and agreed to hold such events regularly.  

Khovar notes that in particular, eight documents were signed on the day of the business forum: 

 

  • A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) TALCO and OJSC Azeraluminium OJSC;
  • An agreement between the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Tajagropromexport of the Export Development Agency under the Government of Tajikistan and the Azerbaijan’s OJSC Industrial Corporation on cooperation in the field of mutual trade;
  • A consignment agreement between Lesinvest LLC (Tajikistan) and OJSC Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation on the sale of cotton oil and exchange of experience in the field of textile production;
  • A consignment agreement between Vodii Zarrin Agrarian Alliance LLC (Tajikistan) and OJSC Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation on cooperation in the fields of cotton growing, raw cotton processing, and textile production;
  • A consignment agreement between Marmari LLC (Tajikistan) and OJSC Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation on cooperation in the field of cotton growing, including cottonseed processing;
  • A consignment agreement between Sir Daryo LLC (Tajikistan) and OJSC Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation on cooperation in the field of export-import operations;
  • A consignment agreement between Tajikistan’s Bollug Company and Azerbaijan’s Ganj 2000 Company on cooperation and mutual understanding;
  • A consignment agreement on cooperation between Tajikistan’s Obi Faizobod Company and Azerbaijan’s Universal Trade Company.
